The Child’s Palace (2024)

Oil on canvas, 75 x 49.5cm

The Child's Palace captures a deeply personal moment of anticipation and transformation. At 38 weeks pregnant, I sit with legs folded, cradling the life within me. My green and white striped shirt symbolises growth and new beginnings, while the stripes wrap around my belly, representing the protective embrace that holds my baby safe within. My exposed belly embodies the vulnerability and strength of motherhood.

This self-portrait is a celebration of the sacred space within a mother's womb, a palace where new life is nurtured and prepared to meet the world. Through this artwork, I aim to convey the profound connection between mother and child, and the beauty of this transitional phase in life.
